Student Comments
In the third unit (Winter), I asked students to send me comments to use in this poster. I told them that their comments will not impact their grades, whether they lavished praise on the course or criticized it harshly. These were some of their responses:
“I always look forward to doing the assignments and following my hero’s story, as I feel like I am a part of it!”
“I love how this class takes content that I normally would not be interested in and makes it fun—sort of like a game.”
“I was nervous because I did not think that this was a topic that I would be interested in at all or that I would enjoy. However, this outline of the class makes this topic way easier to understand and relate to, especially with the different themes and topics that are outlined every week.”
“I have to say that this course has really surprised me. I generally do not have this level of engagement with a course unrelated to my major, but I have found myself becoming very interested in the ideas of Arthurian literature. I especially appreciate the intentional connection to how we see themes and ideas of this literature in our media, society, and world today [..] I feel motivated to work towards the goals established for my character throughout the course-it makes it seem more like a game that I am playing, and consequently, learning from.”
"It's the first course I've taken in college that has actually enabled me to have fun while also learning things.”
“The game element in this game excites me to learn more and continue my path through the ‘game’.”
“It is great to learn about concepts in the course and then apply them to thinking about culture or my own experiences.”
Personal Reflections
In this area I talk about what I've learned.
